Hastings

The City of Hastings was incorporated on March 7, 1857, by the Territorial Legislature. Hastings became the county seat of Dakota County on June 2, 1857. Hastings is blessed with a beautiful setting on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. Victorian residences in tree-lined neighborhoods, a classic Main Street downtown, and the 1871 County Courthouse maintain Hastings’ distinctive small town character. At the same time, Hastings continues to grow with steady residential, commercial industrial development activity coupled with an expanding mix of public and institutional land uses (Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau).
