A Black lesbian singer from California wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card as the next major critic of transgender women in female spaces — yet singer-songwriter Tish Hyman has unexpectedly linked arms with conservative women nationwide. And over the weekend, that journey led her straight to Minnesota.

Locker-room confrontation goes viral and sparks national attention

Hyman’s rise as a fierce critic of biological men in women’s private spaces began at a gym in West Hollywood, where she filmed herself confronting a biological male who was using the women’s locker room.

“You can’t get rid of me for this. I’m a woman, and I have every right to not want a man in the restroom when I’m naked,” Hyman said in the video that’s been viewed over 6 million times.

Hyman said the facility, a Gold’s Gym that is now operated by EōS Fitness, terminated her membership shortly after the encounter.

Another clip went viral almost immediately. In the video, Hyman tells bystanders: “Men — grown men with big d—s in the women’s locker room, and that’s why I’m getting kicked out. I want to make sure the girls know. Everybody saw that man in the f—–g locker room, and no one’s saying s–t.”

Hyman challenges Wiener on women’s safety at viral townhall

A week later, Hyman confronted Democratic California State Sen. Scott Wiener — who is running for Nancy Pelosi’s seat — at a townhall event, accusing him of allowing men to access female-only spaces — an exchange that also went viral.

“What would you say to women who are seeking assurance that their safety will be protected from men who, by California law, can self-identify as women in women-only spaces?” Hyman asked Wiener.

“We want everyone to be safe. We also know that we have trans people — both men and women — who are men and women. And so, uh, you know, trans women are women,” Wiener responded.

“I’m a lesbian Black woman. I’m not transphobic, I’m not homophobic, and I respect a lot of the things you’ve done,” Hyman said. “But I see a lot of these bills you’ve passed that are dangerous for women and young children. We want to know: are you going to protect women? Not trans women — women?”

Her question drew loud boos from the audience, and Hyman left the event moments later.

Protest focuses on Minnesota DOC policy allowing inmates by gender identity

On Sunday, Hyman took her cross-country campaign to Minnesota, rallying with protesters outside the Shakopee women’s prison against a 2023 DOC policy that lets biological males live in women’s housing.

Alpha News was the only Minnesota outlet to cover the event. Hyman, standing with a megaphone and a black cap reading “XX-XY,” shouted toward the cellblocks: “Shakopee Women’s Prison, I hope y’all can hear me in there. We are here to raise awareness about the injustice that’s happening in this prison and many prisons throughout America … One man is enough to cause havoc in a woman’s prison.”

“They should not be in the prisons with us, the locker rooms with us, the sports with us. They are men,” she declared to cheers.

“I am tired of people acting like they don’t have eyes and a brain between their ears,” Hyman said, before raising a poster of “hideous looking men” — mugshots of male inmates convicted of violent crimes, including murder and child sexual abuse, who have been transferred into the facility under the DOC’s policy.

Video of her remarks, posted by Alpha News, had surpassed 535,000 views by Monday morning.

“I’m gonna be loud until all women are loud and our voices are heard,” Hyman recently said in an interview with the Daily Wire.
